Even as Japanese carmaker Nissan is in the process of developing strong business fundamentals in the Indian market for the launch of its much-awaited compact car in the next few months, the company will be unveiling its sports car 370Z for the Indian customers next week.
“We plan to launch our iconic 370Z sports car on January 20 at Mumbai,” a company official said. However, he declined provide further details. This will be Nissan’s third model to be marketed in India. Nissan presently sells two cars in India –Teana and X-Trail, priced over Rs 20 lakh. The company was expected to end calendar 2009 with sales of 300 units with the two models.
The new launch is part of company’s business strategy to widen its product portfolio in the fast-growing Indian automobile market from the present two products to nine by 2012. The proposed nine models, including five locally produced products, will range from entry-level cars, sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs and to light commercial vehicles. With a slew of models, the Japanese carmaker is targeting a market share of 5.7 per cent in the Indian automobile industry by 2012.
Nissan is also in the processing of developing its business fundamentals in preparation for the successful launch of its new compact car in the next few months in India. Nissan had roped in Hover Automotive India as its partner for marketing, sales, after-sales service and dealer development for the Indian market.
It has established 10 dealership and its 11thdealer outlet is to be inaugurated on Monday at Chennai. Presently, Nissan has presence in eight states and is expected to open more outlets before May 2010 when the compact car of Nissan is expected to be rolled-out in the Indian market.
Nissan is set to unveil its new compact car in Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. The yet-to-be named compact car is being developed on Nissan’s global V-platform. The new car will be manufactured in five countries including Thailand, China and India. The upcoming Indian car plant at Oragadam near Chennai is expected to commence production of its new compact cars by May 2010.
