Short Take Road Tests - 2007 Mitsubishi Galant Ralliart

First, a confession: As we wandered toward the new-for-2007 Galant Ralliart, which Mitsubishi proudly calls a “sports sedan,” we were prepared to be underwhelmed. Come on, how sporty can a front-wheel-drive, mid-size sedan be? We figured we’d brave the inevitable torque steer and likely never think about the Galant again.A surprisingly athletic mid-size sedan from an unexpected source.

Remarkably Good. Imagine our surprise then, when we first toed into the Ralliart’s throttle and it responded right now! In fact, the reaction is almost too quick—the average Camry driver would likely provoke the Gallant into a full-blown tire-spinning, traction-control-inducing launch—but once you respect the throttle, it’s a good thing. Mitsubishi Eclipse GT

If not love, at least respect. Performance,
value and outstanding service record outweighs
the negatives.

We all base our new-vehicle purchase decisions on a dizzying range of personal priorities, but over the long haul, the trait that endears a ride to any owner is its reliability. That’s the secret ingredient in cars like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. Like Tonto, the Masked Man’s faithful Native American companion, they’re always there, always ready, and they never complain. And they never become sources of irritation by requiring service outside of the regular factory-prescribed intervals.

Although the latest Mitsubishi Eclipse is based on Galant sedan foundations, it obviously won’t be confused with an Accord or Camry. Its practicality index is lower, its visibility index is higher, and during its 18-month, 40,000-mile tenure in the C/D long-term test fleet, its logbook reflected accumulated reactions that were decidedly mixed. Car Design Elettrica Green

Elettrica Green Car Design Simple Design Elettrica Green Car
This design a simple elettrica green car because this car can environmentally friendlly with natural. A damp July Sunday in 2007 may well go down in history as the day the practical electric car finally came of age. From a start point just South of Clapham Common, London, an Elettrica two-seater made the 50 mile-odd run all the way to Brighton sea front on a single charge, with battery capacity to spare.
Range has always been the electric car’s equivalent of the Red Flag act. Like the Red Flag act, with recent developments in lithium-cobalt battery technology, it has now become more of a psychological rather than a practical limitation”, says Vaughan Richmond, partner at Elettrica’s UK agents’ Travelelectric. Organised by the Battery Vehicle Society, the 22nd of July’s London to Brighton EV Run event has become an annual gathering that attracts both amateur enthusiasts for this mode of transport, as well as commercial entries from the UK’s growing clutch of electric car and light van manufacturers. Retracing the route taken by those early internal combustion motor pioneers, one of the company’s Elettrica vehicles took in the climb over the Ditchling Beacon – proving that today’s EVs need no longer be restricted to central London flood-plains or the flat-lands of Cambridgeshire. As Richmond is at pains to make clear: “You have to remember that this is not a prototype, or a vehicle using technology that is 10 years in the future. What we achieved that Sunday, can be repeated day in day out, with two adults, and all from a car that has sufficient in reserve to cope with the cut and thrust of urban dual-carriageways”. Travelelectric, based in Ringwood, Hampshire was established to develop the Italian-built Elettrica into a form more suitable for this country. The vehicle now features a range of 60 miles from a single 5 hour charge, and a top speed of 40 MPH, using British-designed control technology and aircraft-grade lithium-cobalt batteries. Deliveries to customers are currently scheduled to commence during September of 2007.

Car Pigeot Bike Meets Car in Three-Wheeled Can-Am Spyder

Ostensibly opening up the pleasures of the motorcycling to would-be riders who, for any or all of a variety of reasons related to fear of falling over, haven't taken the plunge, the slightly odd new Can-Am Spyder promises to keep things upright by putting three wheels on the ground instead of two. The latest offering from Bombardier Recreational Products, the company that gave the world the truly revolutionary Ski-Doo in the late 1950s and the similarly significant Sea-Doo in the 1970s, the Can-Am Spyder merges the drivetrain of a motorcycle with the front end of a sports car to create something, well, different. The look is undeniably novel, and with 106 horsepower from a 998-cc V-twin, it offers performance that, while a far cry from even a low-end sport bike, is still on par with, say, a Porsche 911 (which isn't bad at all). Sixty miles per hour arrives in about 4.5 seconds, and the Spyder will scoot to an electronically limited 110 mph. It's on sale now, priced at $14,999. A manually actuated five-speed sequential transmission is standard; an electronically controlled version will add $1500. Specify yellow paint instead of the standard silver for an extra $300. We love the concept of a motorized trike, although we'd prefer one that came at the idea from more of an automotive perspective, like the spectacular Renault 20Cup concept from a couple of years ago. The Can-Am Spyder is not without its charms, but it seems to us that for five or six grand more, a Mazda MX-5 Miata or a Pontiac Solstice makes vastly more sense — no helmet required.

Next BMW 1

A weird and stupid move from BMW.
This illustration shows how the next small 1 series could look like.
And it does seem pretty realistic. And boring.

The 1 series hatch came out in Europe in 2004. So a new one is due out pretty soon.
We only get the "way overpriced" coupe and convertible versions in the US. With the same engines offered in the 3 series.Remember when, a few years ago, they were supposed to be working on a sedan version? Mainly for the US market.
Where is it???

The next 1 is still supposed to be available as a sedan. (Toe better compete with the next Audi A3, also offered as a sedan).

So we might be getting it on top of the coupe and convertible. And smaller engines will also be offered, finally.
Making it a true "Compact BMW".

Clean Diesels in 2009 Honda President Confirms New Fit

2007 Honda Fit Sport Honda CEO Takeo Fukui said today that Honda will introduce a redesigned version of the Fit this fall, according to a Detroit News report. The new Fit will launch first in Japan, with U.S. sales likely to start soon after.

No details were given regarding changes for the model, but even now, Honda dealerships are having a hard time keeping the popular subcompact stocked on lots। Honda has sold 36,556 Fits in the U.S. since the car made its debut stateside in 2006 with over 2 million units sold since the Japanese launch in 2002.

Fukui also confirmed that Honda will be bringing a clean diesel engine to the U.S. and Japan markets in 2009, which will be 50-state emissions compliant. As we previously reported, it's likely the first diesel engines will be 2.0-liter four-cylinder versions to serve duty in the Accord sedan and CR-V small crossover.

Other interesting tidbits from Fukui include confirmation of the previously reported dedicated hybrid model scheduled for a 2009 debut, which will undercut the Civic Hybrid that MSRPs at $22,600. Honda also will push back the introduction of its premium Acura brand in Japan for at least another two years, tossing aside its original fall 2008 launch. Honda is basing its decision on current Japanese market conditions.

Nissan Land Glider Concept Car

Concept Car : Nissan Land Glider
A unique two-seater Nissan Land Glider Concept power comes from two electric motors in the rear powered by lithium-ion batteries mounted beneath the floor. The Nissan Land Glider Concept features a non-contact charging system that can be charged whilst shopping at a supermarket or stopping at a motorway service station. This system enables vehicles to be charged wirelessly at locations where the infrastructure exists.

Concept Car : Nissan Land Glider
Described as a ‘personal city commuter,’ the Nissan Land Glider Concept features steering-by-wire and a lean capability when cornering – like a motorcycle – that enables the vehicle and its tires to lean by up to 17 degrees. To ensure maximum safety whilst driving, engineers have fitted a car-robotics style crash avoidance system in which sensors mounted in the body detect other vehicles in the same way as fish swim in schools without colliding.

This really is a design idea in designing a car that was weird. This seems to be a very odd car to say the least and I would have loved to really get a picture of this from the front view but even without one like that, it would be hard not to call it the ‘Armadillo Car’ for the sheer metal work on its back as it reminds me quite a bit of the Armadillo. It also reminds me of the ‘Holiday Armadillo’ episode of Friends where he dresses himself up as one for the sake of his son Ben. Despite how much I really like that whole episode this car is just not to my liking. While the makers of this car are really proud of the whole welding work put on it and I would not really disagree with them on that as there must have been plenty of painstaking work put on it, it still does not feel an iota like a car that you would really want to parade around in. By the looks of things I am pretty certain that the front of the car would have a giant metal bird beak on it and even that only makes it all the more un-cool. Unless you are looking for a welder who would really dish out some horrible looking automobiles, it is hard to understand why anyone would want to put this up as their best work. Not a car to really die for!

Honda Fit: Fully Loaded in a Small

Small is big," said Dick Colliver, senior vice president of American Honda Motor *** Inc. "The Honda Fit has proven that small cars can have big popularity, a big interior and a big fun factor without the traditional small car compromises."

The Fit offers 90.1 cubic feet of interior volume with multiple seating and cargo configurations. The powertrain consists of a 109 horsepower, 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder VTEC? engine and a 5-speed manual transmission or an available 5-speed automatic transmission. The Fit Sport adds plus-size alloy wheels; a 200-Watt, six-speaker audio system; wheel-mounted paddle shifters (when equipped with the available automatic transmission) and a full body aero kit complete with a rear roofline spoiler.

The Fit has earned a top five-star crash safety rating1 for frontal crash performance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). For 2008, the Fit has a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). This system adds to the Fit's slew of standard safety features including dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side-curtain airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). All seating positions have three-point seat belts, and the front seats have automatic tensioning seat belts. Two Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) are provided in the outboard rear seating positions.

Dimensionally compact on the outside, the interior provides a surprisingly large passenger and cargo space that optimizes comfort and utility. At its functional foundation is the Fit's Magic Seat?, an innovative 60/40 split rear seat that allows the seat backs to fold down or the seat bottoms to flip up, providing five distinct seating and cargo carrying configurations (refresh mode, tall object mode, long object mode, utility mode and the standard five passenger mode). With all seats in the upright position, passenger volume measures 90.1 cubic feet with 21.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row (slightly less than an Element's cargo volume behind the second row). In order to help maximize Fit's useable interior space, Honda located the fuel tank in a central location near the middle of the vehicle. The fuel tank location allows the cargo floor in the rear of Fit to be relatively low, thus increasing the interior volume.

The 1.5-liter, SOHC, 16-valve, 4-cylinder VTEC engine generates 109 horsepower @ 5800 rpm and 105 foot-pounds of torque @ 4800 rpm. The compact and efficient powerplant features Honda's innovative Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC?). The VTEC system's ability to provide highly efficient operation at low engine speeds and increased performance at high engine speeds benefits fuel economy, power and low emissions. Refinement is further enhanced with electronic Drive-by-Wire throttle control, which provides quick throttle response, smooth automatic transmission shifts (on automatic transmission models) and precise fuel delivery to the engine. City/highway EPA fuel economy ratings2 of 28/34 miles per gallon (manual transmission) are among the highest ratings in the subcompact 5-door hatchback class. Emissions levels are rated as LEV-2 by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Tier 2, Bin 5 by the federal government (EPA).

The suspension setup is a combination of a front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam with a trailing arm. The compact front and rear suspensions were both designed to allow for a large passenger cabin with a low floor. The Fit employs a compact, efficient and highly responsive Electric Power Steering (EPS) system that also contributes to higher fuel economy since engine power is not needed to operate a hydraulic system.

Fit comes with standard amenities such as air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD audio system with four speakers, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks, and 14-inch wheels with P175/65R14 tires. The Fit Sport includes steering wheel-mounted paddle shifter controls (when equipped with the with the available automatic transmission), an underbody aero kit, rear roofline spoiler, fog lights, security system with keyless remote entry, cruise control and 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P195/55R15 tires. Inside, the Fit Sport provides a premium 200-watt, AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers, MP3/WMA playback capability, a five-mode equalizer, and an auxiliary audio jack for input from a portable music player.

Accessory 16-inch wheels with P205/45R16 tires are available as a dealer-installed option on Fit and Fit Sport. For 2008, two new exterior colors complement the Fit's palette: Tidewater Blue Metallic and Blackberry Pearl.

Modern Car Ford Synus

Modern Car Ford Synus Pain with graycle Color StyleMan, Rob sucks. Rob sucks because he's satiated my desire for an odd car after the death of my beloved Aztek - but he satiated it with a car that won't likely ever see the light of day. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the... FORD SYNUS. "... features a vault-style spinner handle in back with deadbolt door latching." "When parked and placed in secure mode, SYNUS deploys protective shutters over the windshield and side glass. Small windows on the flanks and roof are non-opening and bullet-resistant." Isuzu Motors: A Loving Tirade

2007 isuzu ascender top front right.JPGHe points out that the Isuzu Ascender (pictured) is the same thing as a Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Isuzu i-Series pickup trucks are Chevy Colorados. "All Isuzu does is take vehicles from GM and slap a couple of funky badges on them and that's pathetic," he wrote.

He lamented that it would not be so bad started its vehicles with a basic GM design and then customize it to be a true Isuzu. He points out that what GM does with Saab and Ford does with Volvo.

Derek Price of the Greenville Herald Banner in Greenville, Texas is mad. And he is taking out his wrath on Isuzu. He says that Isuzus today are better than they've ever been, but the Isuzu vehicles are not built by Isuzu. He is upset that Isuzu sells General Motors vehicles with "goofy names.

It's no newsflash that Russians have money these days, but what remains to be seen is whether rich Ruskies would be willing to spend their flash cash on cars built by the home team, Lada. But the home team may be ready to find out. Behold the Lada Revolution 3, a Russian supercar. Mid-engine, six-speed, rear-drive, low-slung, adjustable wing in back, this thing apparently has it all. Under the rear glass, under a cover that suggests it might be concealing a V-8, beats the heart of a Renault F4R774 2.0-liter four cylinder, making 245 hp, which is supposedly enough to hustle this thing to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds en route to a top speed of 155 mph. Pagani has nothing to worry about. Yet. If you think Russian concepts are weird, try this Hungarian one from the Andros Group. Called iSolo, it's an ultra-light (770-pound), aero-slick (0.22 Cd) three seat electric car that can run on solar energy gathered from the roof panels, plug-in power, or pedal power. That's right, each seat has two pedals that can be pumped to generate electricity. Top speed is said to be 80 mph. A multi-fuel range-extending combustion engine is in the works for a future show. The name of this one almost says it all: Assystem City Car. w's this for a wacky hybrid. Four wheels arrayed in a diamond pattern. The front and rear wheels can turn fully 90 degrees in either direction, allowing the car to pivot about its center, or to drive into a parallel parking space and then pivot into position. Here's where it really gets weird. The front wheel is electrically driven, with the motor and four batteries all mounted on a turntable that includes a control arm and spring/damper for the wheel (the drivetrain is not unsprung, thankfully. The rear wheel is powered by a Honda scooter's 600cc motor, which again is mounted along with a small gas tank, on a turntable. Assystem is an engineering company, working with Franco Sbarro design, that is looking for a licensee to build the bizarre City Car. We wish them luck. Lumeneo Smera. Billed as a 1+1 tandem, this four-wheeled enclosed motorcycle of sorts is powered by electricity, using a 30kW motor and a 10 kW-hour battery good for 150 km (93-mile) range. It rides on four 145/70R-14 tires and can lean 25 degrees in the turns. I wouldn't hold my breath for production ever reaching U.S. shores.
